Fix: "Word cannot open this file because the file format does not match the file extension"
This error means Word checked the file's internal structure and found it doesn't actually match the .docx format, even though the filename ends in .docx. The file was likely renamed from something else, or it's a corrupted or partially downloaded file.

About .docx to PDF conversion
How do I figure out what format the file actually is?
Right-click the file, choose to open it with a plain text editor like Notepad, and look at the first few characters. If it starts with 'PK', it really is a ZIP-based format like .docx or .xlsx. If it starts with '%PDF', it's a PDF. If you see 'D0 CF 11 E0' or garbled binary, it's likely an older .doc or .xls format. That tells you what the file actually contains.
Can OpenAny fix this and convert it to PDF?
OpenAny can try. Upload the file and select PDF as the output. If the file's real format is one we support β such as .epub, .mobi, .xlsx, or .pdf itself β we'll convert it regardless of the wrong extension. If the file is genuinely corrupted or a format we don't support, the conversion will fail and we'll tell you.
What if the file is actually a .doc (old Word format) instead of .docx?
Old .doc files are binary Word 97-2003 documents and we don't currently support that format. Your best option is to open it in LibreOffice Writer, which handles .doc files reliably and is free, then export it as PDF directly from there. Google Docs can also import .doc files if you upload them to Drive.
