π± Kindle AZW3 file won't open on Kindle
AZW3 is Amazon's proprietary ebook format, and Kindle devices and apps only open AZW3 files that were delivered through Amazon's own ecosystem β not ones you've obtained elsewhere or transferred manually. If your AZW3 file won't open, the most reliable fix is to convert it to a format Kindle actually accepts, or to use a different reader entirely.

About .azw3 to PDF conversion
Why won't my AZW3 file open on my Kindle even after I transfer it?
AZW3 files bought from Amazon are DRM-locked to your specific Amazon account and device. If you copied the file from another device or source, the Kindle will refuse to open it because the DRM check fails. Files downloaded directly from Amazon's servers to your Kindle account will work; manually transferred AZW3 files usually won't unless they are DRM-free.
Can I convert my AZW3 file to something else so I can read it?
If your AZW3 file is DRM-free β for example, from a publisher that sells unprotected ebooks β you can convert it to PDF using OpenAny. Upload the file, select PDF as the output, and download the result. PDFs can be sent to your Kindle via the Send to Kindle service or read on almost any device. DRM-protected AZW3 files cannot be converted by any online tool, including OpenAny.
What formats does Kindle actually accept for sideloaded files?
Kindle devices and the Kindle app natively support MOBI, AZW, AZW3 (DRM-free only when sideloaded), PDF, and since a 2022 update, EPUB. The easiest workaround if you have a DRM-free AZW3 that won't open is to convert it to PDF or EPUB, then either sideload it via USB or email it to your Kindle's Send to Kindle address.
