βοΈ Email EML file won't open on Mac
macOS has no built-in app that opens .eml files by default, so double-clicking one just gives you an error or nothing happens. You can either get an email app to read it, or convert the .eml to a PDF so you can open, share, or archive it without needing any email software.

About .eml to PDF conversion
Why won't my .eml file open on a Mac?
Apple Mail can open .eml files, but only if it is set as the default mail app and you drag the file onto its icon β double-clicking from Finder often fails even then. Third-party apps like Thunderbird or Airmail also work. If you do not use a desktop email app at all, converting the .eml to PDF is the simplest way to read the content.
Can I convert an .eml file to PDF on a Mac without installing anything?
Yes. Upload your .eml file to OpenAny.io and it will convert it to a PDF you can download immediately β no account needed and the file is deleted within 60 seconds. The PDF will contain the email headers (From, To, Subject, Date) and the body text. Note that attachments inside the .eml are not extracted or included in the PDF output.
Will the conversion keep the email formatting and images?
Plain-text and basic HTML emails convert cleanly. Emails with complex layouts or external images that were blocked by the sender's server may render with missing images or simplified formatting. The core message content β text, subject line, and sender details β will always come through.
